The Tuesday ‘BushWhack’ing

TBWA is the “fulcrum” of Sen. McCain’s campaign…

  • The second presidential debate is this evening in Nashville, TN expect mud-sling (at least I hope that’s mud) and an overabundance of the words; ‘maverick’, ‘my friends’, ‘POW’, and ‘straight-talk’. DANGER: do not partake in a drinking game with the aforementioned words, lest you be stricken with alcohol poisoning 10 minutes in…
  • In another stab at addressing the credit crisis they SHOULD have addressed a year ago, the Treasury Department is looking into buying up “unsecured commerical papers.”
  • New polls are out… some say Sen. Obama is surging ahead, others say McCain is. Take all of them with a grain of salt.
  • Lehman Brothers CEO Richard Fuld was grilled by members of the House yesterday, a day after being punched in the face at his local gym. Fuld was on a treadmill when someone walked over from the other side of the room and, angry at Lehman’s failure, knocked Fuld out cold and I just came up with a way that all of these banks can recoup their funds: offer people a chance to punch them in the face for a small, nominal fee…
  • Yesterday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the road for the U.S. in Iraq has been “harder, longer, and more difficult than I personally imagined.” Ms. Rice also said something that disagrees with the stance of the McCain-Palin campaign when she warned that, despite some recent progress, success in Iraq is “not a sure thing.” (Hmm, someone should tell that to McPalin. The fact that no one in this administration thought this war/occupation would be difficult, proves unequivocally that they didn’t do any strategizing in the invasion’s build-up…)
  • This should NOT come to a surprise; a three-judge federal appeals panel in Washington ruled yesterday that former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and President Bush's current COS Josh Bolten do not have to cooperate with a congressional committee investigating the firings of U.S. Attorneys. (Lovely… and once again, members of this administration are getting off without facing repercussions…)
  • During Gov. Palins speech in Florida yesterday morning, her staffers kept the press locked out of the park and away from supporters attending the speech. (This has got to end NOW! In the weeks since she’s been named McCain’s running mate, she has not held single press conference, and now she’s locking the media out of her events?? The media needs to grow a pair and refuse to cover Ms. Palin until she makes herself available to the media. While I know that that won’t happen, it should…)
  • The Washington Post is reporting that during Palin’s speech in which she verbally attacked Obama, one audience member yelled out “Kill him”… (Stay classy republicans… stay classy. If this was indeed shouted out at a Klan Rally Palin speech, the Secret Service should be investigating)
  • And have we mentioned? That conservative Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan is NOT happy with Palin and is airing it out. Appearing on the ‘Laura Ingraham Show’ yesterday, she criticized Palin for her lack of solemnity while the nation is experiencing a major financial crisis, saying “Our country is facing huge challenges. Suck it up and be serious. And don’t be doing this cute colloquial stuff. It doesn’t sit right with me.” (Nice… one wonders how long the disenchantment with Palin can go on before the campaign sees the error of its ways in naming her VP)
