The Tuesday ‘BushWhack’ing

Let’s get this post commuted started...

  • In case you were under a rock and hadn’t heard, Commander Cuckoo Bananas commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby Monday afternoon, hours after a judge had ruled that Libby wouldn’t be allowed to remain free during the appeal process. (The contempt for law that this administration and this president have is absolutely staggering, and I sincerely hope it comes back to seriously bite them on the ass someday…sooner rather than later…)
  • The meetings between “President” Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin can best be described in one word; “frosty.” Seems US missile defense systems are the sticking point… (Wow… did we just time-travel back to the 1980’s???)
  • BTW, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is pissed… but he’s doing a good job of hiding it with his professionalism. The Next Hurrah has this statement from Mr.Fitzgerald’s spokesperson; “We fully recognize that the Constitution provides that commutation decisions are a matter of presidential prerogative and we do not comment on the exercise of that prerogative. We comment only on the statement in which the President termed the sentence imposed by the judge as “excessive.” The sentence in this case was imposed pursuant to the laws governing sentencings which occur every day throughout this country. In this case, an experienced federal judge considered extensive argument from the parties and then imposed a sentence consistent with the applicable laws. It is fundamental to the rule of law that all citizens stand before the bar of justice as equals. That principle guided the judge during both the trial and the sentencing. Although the President’s decision eliminates Mr. Libby’s sentence of imprisonment, Mr. Libby remains convicted by a jury of serious felonies, and we will continue to seek to preserve those convictions through the appeals process.” Keep it up Fitz, you have a lot of people behind you… and I suspect that number will increase as more people realize what Bush has done and what it could mean in the future…
  • And have we mentioned? That Senator John McCain’s (r-AZ) campaign is in trouble. They raised a scant $11.2 million last quarter and had to layoff approximately 50 staff members. Most analysts say it was his support for the failed immigration-reform legislation, coupled with an intense distrust by many conservatives that hurt him most… let rumors of his campaign ending start in five, four, thr— there they are…
