Another day, another drop of the polls

Just when you think that things couldn’t get worse for President Bush (‘Scooter’ Libby’s testimony for one, his party’s inability to agree on immigration policy is another, and audience members using their brains in a Q&A is one as well) another poll comes out that shows his ever-dwindling approval ratings are still…well, dwindling.

A new AP-Ipsos poll shows that Bush’s ratings continue to fall, and that news is exacerbated by the showing (in the same poll) that Republicans are beginning to surrender their advantage on national security, which is devastating election-year news for the GOP that is currently fighting to retain it’s majority in both houses.

A paltry 36% of the public approves of Bush's job performance, which makes this his lowest-ever rating in an AP-Ipsos poll. (To give you an idea of how badly his numbers have fallen – his job approval was 47% just before Election Day 2004 and a sky-high 64% in October 2002)

Adding pain to misery, Bush's approval ratings among registered Republicans is down 12 points since a year ago as well… fueling speculation that more administration changes are likely down the road.

Incidentally, the ratings for Bush’s handling or Iraq is now 35%, also his lowest in AP-Ipsos polling… (must not laugh, must not laugh… it’s hard, but must not laugh… lest karma comes back to bite me on the ass)

What makes this story even more appetizing for Democrats is that as bad as Bush's numbers are, Congress' are worse.

30% of the public approves of the GOP-led Congress' job performance; with Republicans shouldering (and rightly so) most of the blame. When the respondents were asked which party should control Congress, jaw-dropping margin of 49-33 favored the Democrats over the Republicans, the largest advantage the Democratic party has EVER held in AP-Ipsos polling.

This is welcome news for all the Liberals and Independents who are looking for a nationwide change this November. As long as the Democrats can stay focused and unite behind a single message and agenda, then November should be a very happy month. Having said that, now is not the time for Liberals to be sitting on our laurels. Things need to be done, and we all have to do our part. As georgia10 posted on Daily Kos: "Let's approach the next seven months like we're 16 points down, like we have nothing to lose... Let's have big ideas..."

Wonderfully put.

To find out how you can help, visit the DCCC or the DNC and help make things better.

Uh... ok. Not sure what you're talking about but whatever.

You are entitled to your opinion.. no matter how misguided it may be.

Here in Las Vegas, I watch and read quietly, waiting for a big Nov election to fuel my rants. Damn, I wish I had more time to read and comment! Keep up the good (huh?) work guys.

Mike's back... we've missed ya bud.

Thanks for the kind (?) words.

Someone's rants will be fueled in November... I'm just not sure who's...

Good to see that some people are starting to see what Bush really is - incompetent.

The Democrats really need to start laying into Bush over the leak claims and the way the war in Iraq is going to start gaining some real momentum for change.

If things continue as they are then the Democrats maybe able to regain control of both Houses and start limiting the neo-conservative agenda.

Don't get mad if you don't see the Democrats go for the throat right now. It looks bad and it looks weak, but it's the smartest thing they could possibly do. If you kick a guy when he's down, who looks like the bad guy? You do.

If the Democratic Party wants to regain control of the houses for the next 100 years, all they have to do is shut up, keep a really low profile and remember the golden rule of politics:

When politicians are committing suicide, don't attack...just get out of the way! They're going to do a way better job of destroying themselves than their enemies ever could.

It's going to happen; hell, look at the approval numbers. It's happening now, and when the end finally comes no one can say it was anyone's fault. They did it to themselves. You don't have to believe me. Just ask Tom Delay.

Keep your eye on that presidential (dis)approval rating and remember: Even the Third Reich had to end sometime.
