I was out sick yesterday, so how about a double-filled ‘BushWhack’ing?
- The republican held their Michigan primary yesterday and the winner was
Mike HuckaebeeJohn McCainMitt Romney… - The Democrats, trying to make a point to Michigan, ignored that state and held a debate in Nevada last night which, quite unsurprisingly, saw a lot of talk about race between Obama and Clinton…
- Trying to prove that it’s not just the National republican party that’s run by idiots, the Michigan republican Party accidentally sent out a news release last night congratulating John McCain for winning the state's GOP primary. Nice… state party spokesman Bill Nowling said; “We simply pushed the wrong button.” Oops…
- While traveling in the Middle East yesterday, “President” Bush spoke with Saudi King Abdullah and urged him to urge OPEC to authorize an increase in oil production to ease pressure on prices… great news indeed if true… but why are all of Bush’s oil baron friends winking and laughing?
- Not only do 47.5% of Americans believe a recession is likely, but barely more than one in five gave Bush’s administration high marks for economic policy, and many voters thought they would be better off financially with a Democrat in the White House... just one more thing to make me more optimistic about November… but I’m not resting on my laurels…
- In case you’re one of those that DON’T see the economy swirling the toilet… the nation’s largest bank, Citigroup, reported a $9.83 billion fourth-quarter loss yesterday and forecasted that the economy hadn't yet hit bottom… lovely…
- 66% of Americans disapprove of Bush’s job performance, so Bush is starting the last year (YAY!) of his presidency with the worst approval rating of his career… well, let’s see if we can’t make the number get even lower; who’s with me?
- The FDA recently approved the sale of food produced from cloned animals… but at the same time asked the food industry to continue a year-old moratorium on selling such products so the industry and regulators can work out a smooth transition for bringing the products to market…
- The House plans on passing a new defense policy bill that will include a much-needed pay raise for troops. Once again the Democrats show that, yes, they CAN be pushed around as the decision to revise the bill without any attempt to alter or block Bush's feelings on the original bill shows just how damn hard it is for the Democrats to challenge Bush… some will say it’s because the Democrats lack the two-thirds majority needed to override a presidential veto…others will say it’s because they’re too scared to fight the gop. (I think it’s a combination of factors. Knowing that they lack the votes, the Democrats are pinning their hopes on not only winning the White House in November but also increasing the majority in the House and then being free and clear, to an extent, to do what they want to do next year. While it’s not a totally off the mark strategy, it does have risks… so stay tuned…)
- And have we mentioned? That DOJ officials have told Congress that prosecuting Blackwater guards ain’t gonna be easy? Immunity deals and a gap in U.S. laws essentially means that the guards won’t be tried for the shooting of innocent civilians in Iraq last year… (wow, I didn’t see that coming… it’s so hard to express sarcasm in the written form…)
