GUILTY!

Alaskan republican Senator Ted Stevens has been found guilty on felony charges for making false statements.

It seems that the jury didn’t buy Stevens’ explanation that the former head of Veco, Corp., Bill Allen, gave him gifts he didn't want and was unaware of, and that he believed the $160,000 he gave to another contractor covered all costs for the home renovations.

According to the AP, Stevens could face up to five years in prison on each count… but considering federal sentencing guidelines, he’ll likely receive much less prison time if any at all.

But it almost certainly means an end to his senate career as Stevens is currently locked in what already has been a tough re-election campaign against Democrat Mark Begich.

Slander... Really?

Some would think that, eventually, someone who has been a republican tool his entire life would top out somewhere, right? Hit the ceiling and cease going higher and higher with his buffoonery and tool-ish behavior…

You’d be wrong.

Case in point: former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Speaking on F*x “News” last night, the erstwhile tool claimed that the skits mocking Gov. Palin on SNL were “vicious” and a “total distortion of who Governor Palin is.”

But it gets better… Gingrich then said that one particular skit that mocks reporters for pursuing unsubstantiated claims about the Palin clan were “slander and were worthy of a lawsuit.”

Sigh.

Note to Newt; SNL is a comedy show (such as it is)… it’s satirical… it’s lampooning… it’s farcical...you know, like your political career.

And, if I’m not mistaken, Ms. Palin appeared on the show last weekend; wouldn’t that be an endorsement of the alleged slander? For God’s sakes… she sat at the Weekend Update desk, dancing and raising the roof while Amy Poehler rapped about shooting a moose…

And you have the gall stupidity to come out and accuse SNL of slander?? It’s not slander when they’re using Palin’s own words.

I’m just sayin’…

Trickle-down Effect

The hatred that the sad, pathetic and dishonorable McPalin campaign is riling up is now trickling down to down-ticket races.

Consider this from Georgia;

The fury and loathing of Obama being whipped up largely by McCain-Palin-GOP rhetoric about the Illinois Senator is now spilling into down-ticket races, specifically the battle between GOP incumbent Saxby Chambliss and his Dem challenger:

Thursday's debate took place in front of a highly partisan crowd in the GOP stronghold of Middle Georgia.

Chambliss supporters waved "Saxby" signs and offered up a sustained "boos" when Martin mentioned Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

"Bomb Obama," one woman hollered.

Stupid... classless... and pathetic.

What the hell are these people smoking?

One thing stands out about the plethora of conservative pundits extolling Gov. Palin’s performance during last night’s debate.

They didn’t come out this strongly after the presidential debate… and I chalk that up to the fact that Palin was NOT as good as advertised last night as she evaded answering some questions… she tried to use her “folksy” charm WAY too often and it didn’t work… and she couldn’t think off her feet nor go off the cards to save her life.

All of this makes these conservative comments about her performance even funnier…

Joe Lieberman, on Fox “News”: “She hit it out of the ballpark. She proved that she is ready to be John McCain's Vice President. She was strong, she was competent, she was informed, she was very genuine. She was humorous.” (What the hell was Joe watching? And smoking while watching?)

Andy McCarthy of National Review; “Palin's a star. Her instincts are practical and conservative, so I wish she weren't so bound to McCain. (McCain should wish that too — that's what's made her so popular and given him a shot.) Watching her is fun. It's like watching a rookie who's taken the league by storm and is hitting .290, and you just know that in two years, she'll be hitting .340 ... while Biden is hitting .210 and belongs back in Double A.” (Riiiiiiight…)

Pat Buchanan on MSNBC said that Palin “wiped the floor” with Joe Biden. (Again, like Lieberman; What the hell was Pat watching? And smoking while watching?)

Rudy Giuliani speaking to Fox "News" host Sean Hannity; "One of the very best debate performances I've ever seen by anyone. And only the liberal media could deny her this victory". (That...or a brain...)

McCain communications director Jill Hazelbaker; “Tonight, Governor Palin proved beyond any doubt that she is ready to lead as Vice President of the United States. She won this debate, putting Joe Biden on defense on energy, foreign policy, taxes and the definition of change. Governor Palin laid bare Barack Obama's record of voting to raise taxes, opposing the surge in Iraq, and proposing to meet unconditionally with the leaders of state sponsors of terror. The differences between the Obama-Biden ticket and the McCain-Palin ticket could not have been clearer. The American people saw stark contrasts in style and worldview. They saw Joe Biden, a Washington insider and a 36-year Senator, and Governor Palin, a Washington outsider and a maverick reformer. Governor Palin was direct, forceful and a breath of fresh air.”

Charles Krauthammer on Fox “News” praised Palin’s performance, but said “I wasn’t impressed by the depth of her answers or the breadth of her knowledge.” (Probably because she doesn’t have any knowledge Chuck)

Electing McCain, and thus making her a 72-year old heartbeat away from the presidency would be the biggest disaster to his the US in a very long time.

Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen… Vote Obama.

Is republican stupidity contagious?

Last week Sen. McCain trotted out his standard line that the “fundamentals of our economy are strong.” Never mind that he said this on the very day that Wall Street started to implode with not one but two major banking institutions collapsing and a major insurance carrier starting to disintegrate.

He was, rightfully so, ridiculed for the remarks and was accused of being “un-informed”, “naïve”, or “senile.” (or my choice; all of the above)

Well, apparently the stupid IS contagious as in an interview with CNBC yesterday, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice echoed McCain’s inane comment:

QUESTION: How does a United States in the middle of a global financial crisis affect diplomatic efforts around the world and your efforts?
RICE: Everybody understands that this is a very specific, indeed once-in-a-lifetime – well, we certainly hope – circumstance. But people have confidence in the United States. As the President has said, this is a financial crisis, but the fundamentals of the U.S. economy are strong.

Huh?

If the economy is fundamentally strong, why do we need a $700 billion bailout?

Rice continued to seemingly kiss McCain’s ass as she repeated his backtracking mantra that he was referring to the American worker, saying; “Everyone understands our great ability to innovate, the productivity of our workers, the ability of the country to move quickly. And so I believe the United States’ standing has not been really affected.”

Um, Ms. Rice… you do know that McCain has already picked a running-mate, right? And you do know that you’re saying something that the bastion of rose-colored glasses, the White House, even disagrees with?

Is she trying to apologize for not supporting McCain’s bid whole-heartedly, or is she simply trying to distance herself from the White House by disagreeing with everything they say?

Perhaps she doesn’t want to end up like Colin Powell, marked for life because he was a member of the Bush(whacked) Administration.

This man needs to lose his job now...

Bernalillo (New Mexico) County Republican chairman Fernando C' de Baca to BBC News;

"The truth is that Hispanics came here as conquerors," he said. "African-Americans came here as slaves. [...] Hispanics consider themselves above blacks. They won't vote for a black president."

Speaking as a Hispanic who is voting for Sen. Obama, this is utter nonsense, and there is no room for this kind of blatant hatred in this day and age.

And, by and by, the numbers suggest otherwise you hate-filled jackass.

New Mexico Latinos, polled 9/14-9/16 by SurveyUSA:

• Obama (D) 69%
• McCain (R) 2%

The BBC reporter that got the quote is skeptical about this claim as well, considering that he says; "Virtually all of the Hispanic voters I spoke to told me they were supporting Obama."

It doesn't seem like Hispanics or Latinos have a problem with a candidate that is African-American... only this "man."
