Lame-duck fever, catch it!

It’s poll time here at TBWA, and a handful of new polls were released in the last few days that measured “President” Bush’s approval rating.

Sorry, had to regain my composure after laughing so hard at the numbers…

A new Zogby poll shows Bush's approval rating at 26%, down dramatically from 34% in February.

A recent CNN/Opinion Research poll shows a scant 31% of respondents approve of Bush’s job performance, a new low for a CNN poll that is a staggering 40 points lower than his rating at the start of the Iraq war five years ago.

A new Reuters/Zogby poll pegs his approval rating at 32%, a 2-point drop from February.

When you consider that 19% of Americans believe the country is headed in the right direction and 40% feel very secure about their jobs, you start to understand that the country has had it up to here with the Bush(whacked) Administration and their overwhelming incompetence.

Wow… nothing like following in Daddy’s footsteps, as Bush 43’s numbers are comparable to Bush 41’s numbers near the end of his term… and the numbers and the humongous drop is equivalent to those of President Lyndon Johnson during the Vietnam War.

And when you consider that Dubya’s approval numbers haven’t topped 40 since mid-2006, is it any wonder this country is ready for a change?

All together now; January 20, 2009 can NOT come soon enough…

Close to a year ago, WaPo columnist David Broder wrote a column in which he stated that “President” Bush – who was enjoying sub-30 approval ratings at the time and had just seen his party get kicked in the ass during the 2006 midterms – was “poised for a political comeback”… something that earned him a Weekly Rewind Heckle from yours truly.

Over the past year he has refused to admit he was wrong…

Until now.

In an online chat today, Broder finally renounced his column and said that that belief was “certainly one of my less astute observations.”

That’s putting it mildly Mr. Broder…

Bush’s comeback hasn’t happened and, more than likely, won’t happen before January 20, 2009 when Bush leaves office… and Mr. Broder has finally realized this.

Welcome to the self-evident point that millions of us knew months, nay, years ago…

Now, if only we could get that 19% that still approve of his job performance to see this, things in this country will start getting better…

Another one?

They’re falling like flies as yet another White House adviser is resigning. This time it’s director of the National Economic Council, the White House’s top economic adviser, Allan Hubbard, who resigned today and will be replaced by deputy Keith Hennessey.

This is the latest in a plethora of White House (and gop) departures that comes as “President” Bush winds-down his tenure in office. And considering that Hubbard’s resignation comes at a very difficult time for the country and, to a lesser-extent, the Bush(whacked) Administration.

The country is facing a crisis in the mortgage industry that has not only led to an increase in housing foreclosures but has triggered jittery global stock and currency markets… add to that the skyrocketing costs of Oil (for no other reason than Marie Osmond didn’t win Dancing with the Stars last night)… the economy is swirling the toilet.

And even looking beyond Hubbard’s departure from an economic view, a post I was reading on Daily Kos brought up an excellent point: After Karl Rove decided to leave the White House, an article in the Wall Street Journal (new motto: now with more Rupert) COS Joshua Bolten told senior aides that if they stayed past Labor Day (September) they would be obliged to remain through the end of the president's term in January 2009.

Um, don’t look now Josh, but that’s not happening...

Which leads to an interesting question; does Bolton have any real control in the White House? Or is this “ship” going along without a pilot or navigator? And if that’s the case, what the hell is going to happen between now and January 20, 2009?
