So stupid it hurts

Since becoming Sen. McCain’s running mate, Gov. Palin has said some truly idiotic things… her latest tops them all.

Speaking to conservative radio host Chris Plante this morning, Palin said that because the media described her criticism of Sen. Obama’s associations with Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Right as negative campaigning, that their criticism may “constitute an attack that threatens a candidate’s free speech rights under the Constitution.”

The stupid! It burns…..

Note to Ms. Palin; perhaps you should put down all the things you read on a daily basis – Junior Jumbles don’t count – and read the Constitution… then you would see that the First Amendment bars the Government… the government… from abridging free speech rights and has absolutely nothing to do with one being able to say things without being criticized.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the mindset of conservative tin-foil hatters – I.E. Holocaust deniers, secessionists, militia nutjobs, John Bi*r*h followers and their ilk – this is a frequent complaint… private criticism of public pronunciations somehow violates their free speech rights and one – conservatives only mind you – should be allowed to let their hate-filled rhetoric spew forth without any criticism at all.

If we use Palin’s logic (a term I use with her very, very, VERY loosely, especially when considering she believes that earth was created only 6,000 years ago and that man and dinosaurs walked together in peace, love and harmony), then when a newspaper, Sen. McCain or Palin herself criticize Sen. Obama for his associations, then they’re threatening his constitutional rights since The Constitution also guarantees freedom of association (HT to Glenn Greenwald).

Care to answer THAT charge Ms. Palin?

The fact that this woman is still a viable candidate for the second-most powerful job in the U.S is a perfect example of how mindless and lemming-like republicans are. Anyone with their own brain can see she’s out of her league playing with the big kids in DC, but all they hear are the conservative talking points about taxes, abortion and the like and they’re ready to prop her up as a party savior.

I have two words for that strategy…

Epic. Fail.

Seriously? He said THAT?

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton was on Fox “News” last Friday and host Alan Colmes asked him about his statements advocating the use of military force against Iran by the Bush(Whacked) Administration.

Bolton denied having made any such statements and said that “the use of force against Iran’s nuclear program is deeply unattractive” and any such statements attributed to him “would not be an accurate reflection of my view.”

Hahahahahahaha… good one John, you— what’s that?

Really, he was being serious?

He actually said on television that the use of force against Iran is deeply unattractive??Give. Me. A. Break.

I know Bolton is a mental furball that tries to cover that up with his mustache… but COME ON!

Let’s review his comments about attacking Iran in the past, shall we?

  • A U.S. military strike on Iran is “really the most prudent thing to do.” Fox “News” May 2008
  • He “absolutely” hopes the U.S. will attack Iran in the “next six months.” Again, Fox “News” (sense a theme here do ya?) August 2007

Let’ s not even count the fact that on multiple occasions Bolton has suggested that Israel will attack Iran after the November presidential elections but before the inauguration… an act he said “makes a lot of sense.”

And yet here he is… on Fox “News” (is it any wonder that all of his appearances are on Fox “News” as that seems to be the only news channel to give him air time) saying the exact opposite.

This is a staggeringly new development on the Bush(whacked) Administration’s inanity meter...

STILL dumb as an iguana

It’s not news to anyone who has even remotely followed politics in the last twenty years that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is a schmuck.

Yesterday I briefly mentioned that Gingrich has recently been trying to rally support within the republican ranks for Sen. McCain and, in an interview with GQ magazine, compared McCain’s effort to rally support around his indefinite commitment to staying in Iraq to “what Lincoln had to do in the Civil War.”

While that has to be one of the grossest mis-statements ever uttered by Newt (and there are many), he outdid himself yesterday.

During a Q&A with 20 political science majors of Drew University in New Jersey, a student asked him how the government could justify stripping rights from Americans in such pieces of legislation as the Patriot Act and Gingrich responded by saying that the government has a “right to defend society” and when under threat people “will give up all their liberties.”

Excuse me??
