Naturally, Libby's attorneys are vowing to either seek a new trial, or, failing that, appeal ing the jury's verdict.
The breakdown of counts:
Count 1 (Obstruction): GUILTY
Count 2 (Perjury): GUILTY
Count 3 (False Statement): NOT GUILTY
Count 4 (Perjury): GUILTY
Count 5 (Perjury): GUILTY
This is a major strike at the entire Bush(whacked) Administration... a point that was eloquently brought home by House Speaker, NancyPelosi (D-CA);
"Today's guilty verdicts are not solely about the acts of one individual. This trial provided a troubling picture of the inner workings of the Bush Administration. The testimony unmistakably revealed – at the highest levels of the Bush Administration – a callous disregard in handling sensitive national security information and a disposition to smear critics of the war in Iraq."
Well said, Madame Speaker.
Is Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald finished with his investigations? Will the investigation go deeper?
These are questions I am sure will be answered in the days and weeks to come, so stay tuned.
And, this being the United States where a juror on a massive trial such as this can become a 15-minute celebrity, we already have heard from one of the jurors.
While all of the jurors in the trial were certain of Libby's guilt, they also had a little sympathy for him as well because most, if not all, saw him as the "fall guy."
After the verdict, juror Denis Collins told reporters, “It was said a number of times, ‘What are we doing with this guy here? Where’s [Karl] Rove … where are these other guys?‘”
Interesting question there Denis... where are the others?
As always... stay tuned.
